Dom Sessa has been in management consulting for more than 12 years and has had a winding road back to his colleagues at Two Roads Consulting after exploring a larger firm and going independent. Dom’s career journey is a boomerang story that has taken him to more than 60 cities in 14 countries and yearning to be more grounded at his homebase in DFW. Dom’s relationship with Two Roads is unique because he knew the founders of the firm when they all worked together at another consulting firm back in 2015. He’s always respected and appreciated the leaders at Two Roads because of their approach to the work and focus on people since he worked with them on a transformation initiative for an airline more than eight years ago.
Dom joined Two Roads as an associate in 2017 soon after the firm opened its doors. During that time he earned his MBA at the University of Texas McCombs School of Business through its nights and weekends program, which Two Roads supported fully. Having earned his MBA, he wanted to explore working for a larger management consulting firm, which again Two Roads supported. He joined the private equity value creation team as a senior associate at Strategy&, a division of PwC. He learned a lot and got to apply his experience from Two Roads to the work he was doing at Strategy&, which he found exciting and challenging.
However, after working there for several years he realized that he was on the road 185 nights a year and wanted to establish more balance in his life, so he started his own independent consultancy. He got invited to do some contract work with Two Roads and after a few months of being re-engaged with his former colleagues he realized he wanted to rejoin the firm because of its strong culture, focus on people, and growth trajectory.
When Dom left Two Roads in 2019 the firm had 15 people, when he returned as a contractor in 2023, the firm had grown to 50 teammates with a culture that evolved to match the size and maturity of the firm. “I was really impressed that the leadership team had preserved the culture and stability of the firm through this rapid growth period,” said Sessa. “They really prioritize people over everything else – they care deeply about the careers of our teammates, and that means a lot to me. I’m thrilled to be part of the Two Roads leadership team now as a principal. We’re a high impact firm that clients trust and seek out when making their most important decisions and investments.”
The philosophy of Two Roads is that if they develop great people, the firm can help even more organizations across DFW solve complex business challenges. This has proven to be true for almost a decade now. Managers at the company are passionately proactive about managing and growing the team entrusted to their leadership. As the firm continues to grow it is seeking more experienced consultants to come on board and grow their career at a firm that provides more balance and growth opportunities than consultants typically experience in the profession.
As for Dom, his return to Two Roads has been a successful full circle moment. He reflected on this boomerang journey and shared:
“The camaraderie, culture, leadership, and investment we make in our people at Two Roads is second to none. Every manager at Two Roads is expected to pour mentorship and development into our people and we don’t accept anything less from each other. I left the firm once to explore working at a big, traditional firm and came home to Two Roads because of our People First standard. I’m so proud to be part of this growing team.”
