After eight years as a road warrior for Accenture, Two Roads Principal Will Verret was eager to shift his work-life balance in a healthier direction. Although he loved his work as a consultant, he disliked the constant travel. One of his friends was at Two Roads and encouraged him to consider a change. Will joined the tight-knit firm as a Senior Consultant in 2019.
Although it was a welcome change from the big pond-small fish dynamic of big corporate America, it didn’t fully resonate just how rewarding the career shift would be until Will experienced the opportunity to make an oversized impact with clients. “Two Roads is attractive for its entrepreneurial spirit,” he reveals. “We have more freedom. We can ask questions. We can scratch that creative itch. And that’s at all levels within the company — everyone has a voice. Junior team members express their voices and drive important change, too.”
Will revels in getting to do what he loves: solve tough challenges and problems that stump others. Consulting allows him to wield his strengths — defining practical strategies and building roadmaps to help organizations get where they need to go. “Many firms can frame a strategy up, but our clients often do not know how to act upon it,” he adds. “At Two Roads, we can drive that strategy forward, or help shape a new one.”
Will appreciates Two Roads’ collaborative team approach that always puts the client first. “It’s the reason we enjoy long relationships with our clients,” he notes.
A recent project helping a client navigate the aftermath of the pandemic is just one example of the firm’s client-first approach.
“Coming out of Covid, our client needed a workforce strategy to meet recovering demand. Along with creating an operating model and overall strategy to meet growing demand in a scalable way, we also helped the client with delivering the strategy.”
Will also cites Two Roads projects with various MBA programs and the community’s non-profit institutions as especially rewarding. Joining the firm’s leadership circle as a Principal in 2024, Will now spearheads Two Roads’ recruiting efforts — a role in which he can share all the unique traits that make Two Roads successful.
“While some might qualify Two Roads as a boutique firm, we drive outsized impacts,” he explains. “We offer seasoned professionals and people just starting their careers the best of both worlds: engaging, complex work with leading companies paired with a culture and work-life balance that is superior. Our business model reflects a growth and learning mindset devoid of ego. We encourage questions, learn from each other and tackle problems together. Two Roads does many things well — but most importantly, we build smart people and put them in positions to be successful. It’s been that way from the beginning. And even through accelerated growth and change, it’s still that way. As a company, we did great things with 10 to 15 people. Because we’ve maintained our values and culture, we continue to do great things with 50+ employees.”
